Welcome to Hostel Tabor. Our open dates are: 29th June - 28th August (2026)
Hostel DDT is your base, Ljubljana is your new favourite stop on the road.
Everything is walkable, buses are easy, locals are friendly.
Here are some ideas for where to eat, drink, go out and chill between two hostel nights.
Backpacker, digital nomad or weekend traveller – exploring is always easier with a happy belly.
All places below are close to the hostel and can be done on a backpacker budget if you choose smartly.
Authentic Slovenian Cuisine
• Gostilna Sokol – a classic Old Town tavern serving hearty Slovenian specialities in a cosy, rustic setting.
• Gostilna Šestica – one of Ljubljana’s oldest restaurants with a long tradition, big menu and a leafy inner courtyard.
• Hiša Pod Gradom – a homely restaurant just below the castle, known for generous portions, local flavours and friendly staff.
• Slovenska hiša – a modern “Slovenian tapas” experience with sharing plates, cold cuts and local wines at several Old Town locations.
For super-budget options – bakeries, student menus and local snack spots – just ask at reception; we always have fresh tips.
Slovenia is a wine country and Ljubljana is a great place to get a first taste.
These spots are perfect for a relaxed evening with your new hostel crew.
• Šuklje Wine Bar – an intimate wine bar by the river, focused on top Slovenian and regional wines by the glass.
• Movia Wine Bar – the wine bar of one of Slovenia’s most iconic wineries – great for exploring natural and biodynamic wines.
• Kletvica – a contemporary wine bar with a small garden and carefully curated list, just a short walk from the hostel.
• Dapper – a stylish mix of wine shop, gourmet deli and slow-fashion concept store – perfect for something a bit special.
From spring to autumn, Fridays at Pogačarjev trg belong to Open Kitchen, Ljubljana’s open-air food market.
Top local restaurants, street-food cooks and world cuisines all cook side by side.
It’s the perfect low-fuss way to try many different flavours in one afternoon – just grab a few friends from the hostel and share plates. (Happens in good weather.)
If you want to see a lot in one, two or three days, we recommend the official Ljubljana City Card.
One smart card covers many main sights, public transport and extra discounts – great when you’re travelling light and don’t want to think about single tickets.
Some key perks include:
• guided city tour
• boat cruise on the Ljubljanica River
• unlimited city bus travel
• 4-hour bicycle rental
• free entry to more than 20 museums and galleries
• funicular ride to Ljubljana Castle
• entry to Ljubljana Zoo
• access to Terme Snovik thermal spa outside the city
A great option if you’re short on time, big on curiosity and travelling on a budget.
Ljubljana is small but lively – easy to bar-hop on foot and to get back to the hostel without an expensive taxi.
• Bars along Trubarjeva Street and the riverbanks – packed with cafés, pubs and cocktail bars; perfect for a casual bar crawl with hostel mates.
• K4 – legendary basement club on Kersnikova Street, home to electronic music, drum’n’bass nights and a mixed, student-friendly crowd.
• Metelkova mesto – alternative cultural centre covered in street art, with several small clubs, bars and galleries – a very Ljubljana kind of night out.
• Prulček – laid-back bar with an almost daily programme of free live music and a very local vibe.
• Kino Šiška – Ljubljana’s main urban culture centre, hosting concerts, festivals and exhibitions all year round.
For tonight’s best gigs and parties, ask us at reception – we’re happy to point you in the right direction.
• Boat ride on the Ljubljanica River – a relaxed way to see the Old Town from the water, especially nice around sunset.
• Funicular to Ljubljana Castle – quick and scenic, with 360° views from the top; you can also hike up if you feel like a little workout.
• Public swimming pools in Ljubljana – great for a cheap “spa break” on hot summer days between two city walks.
Rain, heatwave or just a chill indoor day? Ljubljana has you covered.
• Enigmarium Escape Rooms – story-driven escape rooms based on local legends; ideal for small hostel groups.
• The Key Escape Room – another popular escape room venue right in the city centre.
• House of Illusions – an interactive museum of optical illusions in the very centre; fun, playful and super photo-friendly.
When you feel like swapping cobblestones for forest paths or open fields, nature is never far from the hostel.
• Šmarna Gora – Ljubljana’s classic short hike; 30–60 minutes to the top for big views of the city and the Alps.
• Ljubljana Marshes and St. Michael’s Church – a unique wetland landscape just outside the city, combined with Jože Plečnik’s iconic church.
• Tivoli Park & Rožnik Hill – Ljubljana’s green lungs and forested hill for walks, runs and easy sunset picnics.
For everything else – best burek, closest ATM, hidden viewpoints – that’s what we’re here for.
Come talk to us at reception, drop us a message or just stop us in the hallway. Good vibes only.
